Joe Dunlap Piano Studio

Joe has thriving piano studio in the Dublin-Hilliard area 5 minutes from Tuttle mall with more than 50 students per week including many adults. "There are so many wonderful and stimulating pieces and books today that children and adults seem to flourish when given attractive materials," Joe says.

Joe aims to find pieces that satisfy the interests of each students by allowing them to choose pieces they want to play, but are also strengthening their skills as a pianist.

Interesting pieces that are chosen for each students interests and potential appear to be the key to making lessons successful and fun," Joe says.

He will also teach students how to make sense out of chord symbols and fake books in order to create their own arrangements. Additionally, students will learn how to voice chords so they can be arranged to sound full and modern.

Each of Joe's current students have different interest to pursue. Some are attracted to playing jazz while others are more interested in the classics. He has students that enjoy playing themes from the movies, Broadway shows, pop tunes and music from each decade since the 1930s.

"Some of Joe's adult students have taken an interest in learning pieces that have interested them over the years such as The Girl from Ipanema, What a Wonderful World, Take Five, and Phantom of the Opera. Some of Joe's younger students have enjoyed the theme music to Pink Panther, Star Wars, Charlie Brown, and James Bond.

Joe has written more than 100 arrangements that solve the old problem of,...if it was written easy enough to play, it sounded too simple...or, if it really sounded good, it was too hard to play....why not...."Sounds good, but not too difficult to play."

Joe's years of playing professionally have given him a true feel of what works in a variety of skill sets for every student. "I truly enjoy interacting with the students," Joe says. "I love finding pieces the students like and to see them come back each week strengthening their playing and growing musically."

Lesson fees are $88 per month for a 1/2 hour lesson. A 45 min lesson is $120 and for 2 children of the same family, there is a discounted rate of $160. There is no charge for a 5th lesson in the month and 4 times a year I take a week off so that the lesson fee remains the same.
